Exhibits Frenchys Sutra and Weave 2 Weave

Jennifer Beckley's Frenchys Sutra features unique fabric compositions originating from various Maritime Frenchys stores.

Sutra comes from ancient Sanskrit, meaning stitching together with intention.

Weave 2 Weave is Karen LeBlanc's first solo exhibition highlighting Jacquard weaving technology.

The exhibits run from January 18 to February 29
in Memorial Hall, UNB Art Centre, 9 Bailey Drive on the
UNB Fredericton campus. The galleries are open
Monday through Friday 9 - 4:30 PM.

Admission is free.

Rags to Riches: the Muslin Challenge

WHY NOT CHANGE the ?RAGS TO RICHES??
(NBCCD, Fredericton NB 23/01/08) - Third year Fashion Designers from the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design are turning their ?Rags to Riches.?[/b]

From September to December 2007, eight young designers stepped up to the plate and created stunning One-of-a-Kind designs from ?throw away? material traditionally used to mock up a concept. Instead of silk or satin, velvet, or tulle, it?s cotton muslin that was tucked, pleated, poofed, stitched, embroidered, dyed, textured, buttoned, zipped, sewed, and pressed into catwalk ready haute couture. Now they?re ready to bring their dresses out of the studio.

?This project really challenges their imaginations: to take something as potentially uninteresting as muslin and turn it into these fabulous couture gowns,? said Fashion Studio head Ellen Woolaver.

Don?t wait for the 10th Annual Spring Fashion Show (eXposed) to be amazed. Come to the Gallery at NBCCD for a sneak peak on Thursday, February 7th from 5-7 pm when live models stride through our space and show off this exciting new work from the graduating class of the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design.

During the evening meet fashion photographer and NBCCD graduating student Cody Caissie and see the results of his fashion shoots with these models - displayed in frames that decorate the gallery walls.

FDSA is looking for Div 1 coaches ...

FDSA is looking for Div 1 coaches for U12 girls and U14 and U16 boys and girls.

Commitment is:
Attending two information meetings ? one with all parents before any team has been selected. (April) ? Fredericton Inn
- with other Div I coaches and director after team selected ? FDSA office
Selecting team after 2-3 weeks of try-outs (twice per week)
Practice twice a week from May-August
Attend at least 3 one day Jamborees (one at home)
Attend at least one tournament (NS or PEI)
Attend provincials

Stipend provided - $250.00 (125.00 at beginning and $125.00 when equipment and uniforms turned in at end) for the season.
Travel expenses (as per NB government rate) provided through team revenues

FORMER UNB STUDENT RETURNS AS PART OF THE UNB READING SERIES

Two past members of the New Brunswick community will be reading at this session of UNB Reading Series, which will take place Tuesday, Feb. 26, at 8 p.m. in Memorial Hall at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton.

Singled-out as one of Canada's most promising young poets, Erin Knight is a recent graduate of the Creative Writing program at UNB and returns in support of her acclaimed first collection of poetry, "The Sweet Fuels".

A New Brunswick native and former writer-in-residence at UNB, Don Hannah has long been a force in Canadian drama and fiction and comes to UNB after the successful debut of his most recent work of fiction, "Ragged Islands".

The UNB Bookstore will have copies of both "The Sweet Fuels" and "Ragged Islands" available for purchase, and Ms. Knight and Mr. Hannah will be on-hand after the reading to answer questions and personalize your edition.

The UNB Reading Series is pleased to offer free admission to this event. Don't miss your chance to hear two of Canada's most groundbreaking writers.

UNB Reading Series is sponsored by the Canada Council for the Arts, the UNB English department, and the University Bookstore.

We are offering a Ready for School Program for 3 & 4 year olds starting this Fall. These programs will have age-appropriate activities that will help your child learn and enhance the skills needed to succeed in kindergarten. They will run from September 2007 - May 2008.
For more information or to register, please call the Centre at 474-0252.

Ready for School (3 year olds): This program will run on Monday mornings from 9-11:45am. All children must be 3 years old by January 2008.

Ready for School (4 year olds): This program will run on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 1:30-4pm. Children must be attending kindergarten in September 2008.

*Please note, all children must be completely toilet trained to attend either program

Youth Blast in the Gym/Nashwaaksis Field house (Constructive use of time)

All Youth are invited to participate in a variety of drop in programs- open courts, cooperative games, sports activity sampling, giveaways and other fun stuff.

Come out of the cold Saturday nights from 8:00pm-9:00pm at the Nashwaaksis Field House and at the Fredericton Indoor Pool from 9 pm to 10:15 pm..

The cost is $2.00 a night.
